Boko Haram, ISWAP, Unknown Gunmen and other trado-social groups were all borne out of one social agitation or another. They have destroyed so many vallages, maimed and kill so many people, burnt churches and mosques, all in the name of religion, but they hid under entirely different motives which could be cultural and/or political.
One of such is the incident of Saturday 14 January, 2023 where a Christ Apostolic Church in Isota village, a suburb of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State was set ablaze for the Sunday service not to take place.
After thorough investigation, our source told us that the issue that brought about this had been for about five to six years ago or there about and it's all religion against the culture that plays out here.
In the middle of this issue was one Mrs. Oluwafunmilayo Folorunso, a mother of two who is now at large.
Mrs. Folorunso was gathered to have left for the church after so much pressure from the family members that she must be circumcised before she gets married. This, she refused to do and ran to the church for refuge, the Pastor in-Charge in the Church, Pastor Obiwale was quoted to have solicited liniency and understanding from the family of the haunted lady, which they never agreed to.
After so much pressure to achieve their aims, they resolved to violence undermining the results of whatever actions they take.
Circumcision have been rejected by the health sector, especially on girl child, it's called 'Genital mutilation of the Girl Child' and was frowned at by the government too.
Culture and traditions still play a great part of some family settings in Nigeria and this must be addressed seriously in order to save girl child. This is one of the works embarked on by some Civil Society Organization in Nigeria.
EC asked what was the move by the church after it was set ablaze? Our source, who claims anonymity, said the police were alerted and they have cordoned the incident area. No arrest have been made as at the time of gathering this news story.
