FROM THE STABLE OF GOVERNOR SANWO-OLU

Today, I joined fellow governors and traditional rulers at a subcommittee meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the National Council of Traditional Rulers to review a proposed bill aimed at formally establishing the National Council of Traditional Rulers.

This bill aims to alter the 1999 Constitution to give our traditional rulers a formal advisory role in governance especially on security, culture, and public order.

Our traditional institutions have deep roots and hold a strong moral voice in our communities. They are often the first line of contact for many people, especially in rural and suburban areas. We cannot ignore the role they play in conflict resolution, maintaining order, and preserving our customs.

We intend to embrace all aspects of our identity and build inclusive governance systems that reflect the realities of our diverse nation.
